![]() The Carja hunter Ahsis, a Hawk of the Hunters Lodge, is the first known hunter to have killed a Thunderjaw. It then began producing Thunderjaws and other combat machines as the next logical step in protection and deterrence against hunters. Hostile toward humans for their predations on the terraforming machines for parts and resources, HEPHAESTUS made the machines hostile to humans, a phenomenon the tribes call the Derangement. When GAIA self-destructed, HEPHAESTUS gained absolute control over machine design and management as well as manufacture. But that shield now having magical gliding capabilities takes it too far in my opinion.Unlike the Zero Dawn terraforming machines, which were designed and controlled by Zero Dawn’s governing AI GAIA, the Thunderjaw was designed by HEPHAESTUS, which had previously manufactured the machines under GAIA’s direction. It was a shield, which in itself fits the narrative of machines protecting themselves. In Zero Dawn, every piece of technology seemed to be a reasonable fit to the level of disbelief you suspended for the story. Overall I'm wondering if maybe this was an attempt to show off how awesome their game mechanic programming is, rather than focusing on a moving, compelling story and building a mechanic around that.Īnother example I just thought of is the Shieldwing. Spreading out skills into multiple complex groups that have to be actively managed and changed to fit every specific battle just seems like too much. Like they changed it just to change it, because I can't understand how it would be an improvement. Battle mechanics are way different, control sensitivity is way different even with adjustments, and in a way that just feels arbitrary. My initial battle with the slither fang was enough to turn me off. I was so excited and pumped up, but in many ways I just do not find it enjoyable. I came in to HFW expecting an experience that matched the original. Except I started HZD 2.5 months ago, and finished about 2 weeks ago. I knew my post would be inflammatory to some, but I also realize my preferences and circumstances could be unique.Įdit: Also first time playing on a (4k) 65" screen and I've read artifacts become more apparent with larger screen size or closer sitting, so I may be noticing some of that too in performance mode.įinally an opinion and experience that exactly matches mine. When I look at still shots in resolution mode, HFW is hands down better looking. Because I know they're there and I have ADHD, it's very hard to ignore. ![]() ![]() I can better appreciate and notice more detailed shadows, lighting, assets, and more effects and be immersed more if my eyes weren't always catching shimmering edges (and there are a lot more edges in HFW) or if 30 fps didn't feel like choppy slow-mo that give me headaches. However as soon as the camera starts moving, fps (for motion clarity) and sharpness of edges (resolution) are the first things I am going to notice and a priority for me. If resolution and fps aren't as big of a factor, which are subjective things that I highly value, then I would take your view because there are better things graphically going on, especially when looking at two stills.
